Aussie Neck Socks — handmade on a sailboat in Brisbane

So what is it?

It's a tube
of fabric.
That's it.

Just a soft, stretchy, quick-drying tube you pull over your head. Wear it up over your face for UV and wind protection. Wear it down as a collar when the wind gets up. Twist it into a headband, tie your hair back with it, or wrap it round your neck like a scarf.

It squashes into a pocket, dries in minutes, and if you're really hot you can dip it in water and put it back on. Up here in the tropics that last one gets used a lot.

The obvious one. Sits flat under a shirt collar, keeps the wind off your neck and the sun off the back of it. Most people never take it off once it's on.

Pull it up over your nose. On the water the glare comes at you twice — once from the sky and once off the surface — and this is the bit of you that always burns.

Twist it once and it holds. Keeps sweat out of your eyes on the bike, keeps your hair out of your face on deck, and doubles as a hair tie when you've lost the last one over the side.

The person behind them

Hello. I'm
Charlotte.

My husband Dave and I live aboard our 11-metre sailboat in Queensland. We've always been happiest on the water, and like everyone who spends their days in the sun, we understand the importance of sun protection.

Aussie Neck Socks began in 2021 and quickly gained popularity because of their simple design and practicality. Sometimes simplicity wins!

It's not a factory and it's never going to be. Some weeks I'm sewing, some weeks we're sailing. Orders are posted each time we're in a marina.

Square it up
The bolt gets folded and squared on the mat. The table's not always level, which is its own small challenge.
